The second annual HOGIAF Awards took place in the World Forum in The Hague on the 27th of May. This year’s ceremony was held with the topic of international entrepreneurs. Approximately 1000 guests attended the ceremony, during which different entrepreneurs received a HOGIAF Award 2013.

“Compared to other countries, the infrastructure in the Netherlands is particularly good and this is a very important basis for entrepreneurs. The chances for Dutch to create business opportunities outside of their borders increase notably via the influence of the different cultures that are now part and parcel of the Netherlands”, according to Şükrü Masmas, the President of HOGIAF. “We engage ourselves in order to bring the Netherlands out of the crisis. We realize this throughout different manners: we organize events such as ‘Entrepreneurs Meet Embassies’, a conference with the SME (MKB) about upcoming countries, we work intensively with our partners and hand in every year the HOGIAF Awards.”

Ruud Lubbers (State Minister) joined the debate by stating that the people who come from abroad to the Netherlands do not represent a burden, but rather enrich and bring variety to the Netherlands.

The other guest speakers, including the ambassadors of Georgia, Kenya, Macedonia, Malaysia, Tunisia, and Turkey, as well as Henk Kamp (Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs), underscored the importance of international entrepreneurship in the current financial crisis and praised the vigorous international entrepreneurial spirit  of Dutch entrepreneurs.

Frits Huffnagel served as the master of ceremonies, and guided the presentation of different awards.

After having distributed the regular entrepreneurs’ awards in the different categories, an honorary award was given to Ruud Lubbers for his exceptional commitment to Dutch society and the economy of the Netherlands. Another highlight of the evening was the game ‘petje op, petje af’, which was presented by Rens Merkelbach. Throughout the game, the public was provided with information about the economy’s current state.

When HOGIAF looks back to the evening of Monday, the 27th of May, it sees the event as a clear success.  HOGIAF is now looking forward to organizing the 2014 HOGIAF Awards.
